History of Old Jefferson

There isn’t a lot of history I can find about Old Jefferson. It seems like it was developed as heavily residential, and as I read “Uptown light” in some ways. The houses resemble the old cottages found in Old Metairie and some in the Uptown and Carrollton areas. It doesn’t have a strong vibe one way or the other, and seems to serve as a very convenient part of the city to live, particularly if you’re on a budget. Old Jefferson is established, but there have been several years now that people are investing in renovating and updating the older houses. People who live there absolutely love it, and many couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. It has been referred to as “the best kept secret in New Orleans” for quite some time. Who knows when that secret will finally get out!

Architecture then and now

The architecture in Old Jefferson is a mix between adorable cottages with hobbit doors to brick ranches. You will be hard-pressed to find any houses that are huge, as people have not discovered the area as a place to build large houses yet. My prediction is that there will be more development in Old Jefferson. The lot sizes are larger than New Orleans and even some in Metairie. It is a good place to consider if you are looking to be close to New Orleans but in Jefferson Parish.
